Women have successfully resisted
assaults using physical, verbal and psychological techniques. You increase your
chance of escaping with minimal injuries if you use multiple self-defense
strategies, according to a study by sociologist Dr. Pauline Bart. Attackers do
not expect you to stand up for yourself, so you can use the element of surprise
to your advantage.

National
Crime Victimization Survey of 2000 found that Males were more likely
to be victimized by a stranger, and females were more likely to be
violently victimized by a friend, an acquaintance, or an intimate.
60% of females stated that the individual(s) who robbed them was a
stranger.
Intimate violence is primarily a crime against women - females were
victims in 72% of intimate murders and the victims of about 85% of
nonlethal intimate violence.
73% of violent crimes against women occurred within a 5 mile radius
of their home.

Women
who use two strategies of self defense have an 80% chance of
escaping an attempted rape.

An
estimated six million women are assaulted by a male partner each
year and of these, 1.8 million are severely assaulted.

Don't
assume you're safe with someone you know. Approximately half of all
victims of violent crime knew their attacker, and 70% of all rape
and sexual assault victims knew their attackers.

FBI CRIME STATISTICS
aggravated assaults = 1,022,492
murder = 18,209
